WEATHER
CONDITIONS
Weather conditions: |
| Spring was very cold and late. Although by May the rivers were already free of ice, later decreases in temperature caused lake ice break-up (occurring after 20 June) to occur 10-12 days later than usual. Plant growth was also two to three weeks later and birds started breeding seven to ten days later than usual.

Breeding conditions:
| Arctic Foxes were rare (one record during almost one month). Breeding was observed only in a few Rough-legged Buzzards: three pairs were found along 180 km of river. The abundance of most waders was similar to previous years; but Bar-tailed Godwits Limosa lapponica mostly did not breed as they were moving from one place to another in groups of three to ten birds. The number of Spotted Redshank Tringa erythropus was larger than usual, while Red-necked Phalaropes were surprisingly scarce.
